Polk-Burnett was pleased to host an Art is Powerful Youth Coloring Contest for local students in grades 1 through 5 during the 2008-09 school year.
The contest was fun, challenging and educational,” said Polk-Burnett's communications director. “It allowed young people to express their creativity through color and design by drawing an original picture that demonstrated how electricity improves life at home or school. When children took the time to ponder this question, they realized the importance of electricity. It powers our homes, farms and businesses, our computers, alarm clocks, electric toothbrushes and blow dryers, our dishwashers and microwaves, our TVs and stereos, and of course, our lights when doing homework around the kitchen table. Quite simply, electricity powers the world around us, and Polk-Burnett believes art is a powerful way to express this ideal."
All contest entries received by the deadline were considered for prizes. Winners were named in each grade level and artwork was published on the website in the Youth Art Gallery (see below).
