Operation Round-Up awards $13,350 to local programs

Polk-Burnett’s Operation Round-Up awarded $13,350 to 23 community organizations at its January meeting. Funding for Operation Round-Up is donated by members of Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative who round their monthly electric bill up to the next even dollar amount. Grant recipients are selected quarterly by a committee of co-op members, with financial donations awarded to nonprofit organizations that improve our local quality of life. Community support is a core value of Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative.

Operation Round-Up grant recipients for January 2014 are:
1. Polk County Home & Community Education
, $550, to purchase books for head start children
2. Grantsburg High School Boys Golf, $500, to purchase equipment for GHS boys golf team
3. Arnell Memorial Humane Society, $550, to build exercise pens for shelter dogs
4. Car Care: Christians in Action, $1,000, to repair cars for people in need
5. Amery Area Food Pantry, $1,000, to purchase food and supplies for monthly distribution to people in need
6. Milltown Public Library, $550, to assist with summer reading program for youth
7. Frederic Birch Street Elementary School, $550, to offer “African Safari” theme unit and visit the Minnesota Zoo
8. Frederic Community Education, $300, to host Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre for students in grades 2-12
9. Clayton Softball Program, $250, to help purchase a scoreboard for the softball field
10. Faith’s Lodge, $250, to support operation of Faith’s Lodge
11. Friends of the Polk County Library, $550, to purchase computer equipment
12. Northland Municipal Ambulance, $550, to purchase medical devices for uninterrupted CPR during transports
13. Family Resource Center of St. Croix Valley, $550, to support parent education programs in Polk County
14. Lamar Community Center, $550, to provide education in 2014, including art and engineering classes for children
15. St. Croix Falls H.S. Robotics Team, $1,000, to participate in regional competition for robot design and construction
16. St. Croix Valley Orchestra, $550, to purchase new music and update website
17. Clayton School District, $550, to purchase special education supplies
18. Lifeline Food Pantry, $1,000, to help food pantry provide food assistance to 4,800 local families
19. Osceola Library, $550, to purchase two iPads for teen area, children’s story time and technology literacy
20. Osceola Elementary Ready Readers, $400, to purchase books, CDs and CD players for listening and reading skills
21. Burnett County Family Resource Center, $550, to provide educational family activities throughout the year
22. Northern Waters Literacy, Polk County Area Literacy Council, $500, to purchase materials for adult GED tutoring
23. Upper St. Croix Valley Music Association, $550, to fund guest conductor for 10-school honor and concert bands
