Operation Round-Up donates $15,050 to local programs

Polk-Burnett’s Operation Round-Up awarded $15,050 to 21 community organizations at its June meeting. Funding for Operation Round-Up is donated by members of Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative who round their monthly electric bill up to the next even dollar amount. Grant recipients are selected quarterly by a committee of co-op members, with financial donations awarded to nonprofit organizations that improve our local quality of life. Community support is a core value of Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative.

Operation Round-Up grant recipients for summer 2014 are:

1. Good Samaritan SCV Auxiliary, $500, to purchase a second bladder scanner

2. Salvation Army Faith House, $1,000, to provide weekly backpacks of food to children in Burnett County

3. Salvation Army Serenity Home, $500, to provide food and personal care items for homeless individuals

4. Webb Lake Area First Responders and EMTs, $800, to replace expired EPI pens

5. Amery Area Senior/Community Center, $800, to offer health and wellness support groups

6. St. Croix Falls Wannigan Days, $250, to support event and construct replacement Wannigan boat

7. Angels’ Island Playground, Village of Milltown, $1,000, to help build a playground in memory of three local girls who died in a Dec. 2013 car accident

8. Village of Siren, $800, to install restrooms on north end of Crooked Lake Park

9. Moms and Dads Against Meth, $800, to cover expenses at Butterfly House, a transitional sober facility for women

10. River’s Run and Ride Rally, Inc., $500, to construct a pavilion at River’s Skate Park in Milltown

11. Siren Family, Career & Community Leaders of America, $800, to help with student travel and programming expenses

12. Grantsburg Music Festival Association, $800, to host Music in the Park for community

13. Osceola School District Blue Ribbon Safety Night, $500, to offer movie night for children, while parents learn about child safety

14. St. Croix Falls Lions Club, $800, to install new playground equipment at St. Croix Falls Lions Park

15. UW-Extension Polk County, $500, to develop healthy cookbook for farmer’s markets, food shelves and WIC families

16. Polk County Historical Society, $800, to update the security system at Polk County Museum

17. Northwoods Flyers, $800, to promote aviation in local community with Young Eagles program and fly-in breakfast

18. Polk County Kinship, $1,000, to offer mentoring program that helps young people succeed

19. Clear Lake Public Library, $500, to purchase books for Growing Wisconsin Readers program

20. St. Croix Festival Theatre, $800, to offer creativity camps, workshops and theatre performances for youth

21. St. Croix Regional Medical Center Volunteer Partners, $800, to help purchase heated recliner for chemo patients and equipment to transfer patients
