Operation Round-Up donates $16,000 to 28 local programs

Operation Round-Up presents $1000 check to NW PassagePolk-Burnett’s Operation Round-up awarded a $1,000 grant to Northwest Passage July 20. The grant will be used to provide welcome kits for youth as they enter the residential treatment program. 

 

Polk-Burnett’s Operation Round-Up awarded $16,000 to 28 community organizations at its June 28, 2017, meeting. Funding for Operation Round-Up is donated by members of Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative who round their monthly electric bill up to the next even dollar amount. Grant recipients are selected quarterly by a committee of co-op members, with financial donations awarded to nonprofit organizations that improve our local quality of life.

“While safe, reliable electricity is crucial to our mission, improving our local quality of life is at the core of what we do every day” said General Manager Steve Stroshane.

Operation Round-Up grant recipients for summer 2017 are:

1. Lamar Community Center, $500, to help fund youth art programs
2. Dresser-Osceola-Garfield Fire Association, $1,000, to help purchase gear washers that remove hazardous materials from firefighters’ clothing
3. Balsam Lake Water Ski Show Team, $250, to help purchase equipment trailer
4. Osceola Girl Scouts, $250, to build a butterfly garden at the 10th Avenue Triangle
5. Osceola Elementary School Counseling Department, $250, to purchase alternative seating options for students
6. Burnett County Family Resource Center, $500, to host Fun and Fit Families event again this summer
7. Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity, $1,000, to purchase supplies, tools and equipment to build and repair Habitat homes
8. Restorative Justice of Northwest Wisconsin, $1,000, to support current restorative justice program and school programs in Burnett and Polk counties
9. Northwest Passage, $1,000, to provide welcome baskets for kids as they enter residential program
10. St. Croix Valley Senior Center, $250, to repair building’s exterior and replace patio, chairs and handrail
11. Grantsburg Music Festival Society, $500, to help fund Music in the Park at Memory Lake this summer
12. Moms and Dads Against Meth, $1,000, to help cover expenses at Butterfly House, a safe and sober residence for women
13. Kinship of Polk County, $1,000, to pair at-risk youth with adult mentors
14. Osceola Historical Society, $250, to celebrate buildings and businesses that are 100 years old this year
15. Amery Area Community-Senior Center, $500, to replace center’s copier machine
16. Clear Lake Schools, $1,000, to support Suicide Prevention Week activities in September
17. Indianhead Community Action Agency, $1,000, to purchase books for Early Head Start, Child Care Partnerships
18. St. Croix Falls Public Library, $500, to support summer learning program for children and teens
19. Grow Osceola, $250, to create a demonstration planting of bird friendly habitat
20. Association Retreat Center (The ARC), $250, to update athletic equipment and clean up weeds along trail
21. Osceola FFA, $250, to support ag tent, and build corn maze and pedal tractor course at Polk County Fair 
22. Polk County Tractor Safety Course for Youth, $500, to purchase materials, rent tractors and cover other expenses
23. Burnett County Emergency Management, $500, to purchase food and water storage totes for families during emergencies
24. Friends of Milltown Public Library, $500, to purchase chairs for library
25. Coordinated Community Response (CCR), $250, to purchase food for National Night Out community picnic at Crooked Lake Park in Siren
26. Quarter Moon Acres, $1,000, to support therapeutic horse riding program
27. Wannigan Days, $250, to support St. Croix Falls summer celebration
28. St. Croix Falls Community Garden, $500, to purchase tiller and lawn mower for community garden
