Notice to Members Paying by Check - The Speed of Check Clearing Has Increased Due to Electronic Clearing Between Banks
** Effective January 1, 2009, Polk-Burnett began processing checks in accordance with the Check 21 Act that took effect October 28, 2004. The Check 21 Act authorizes banks and merchants to exchange electronic records of checks instead of the original paper copies. The original paper checks are destroyed. There is an image of the check and that electronic image serves as proof of payment. It is important for you to be aware the speed of check clearing has increased due to electronic clearing between banks. The electronic method of processing checks means that your checks will reach your bank faster and likely be paid sooner than they were in the past.

- Capital Credits: A long-term benefit of Polk-Burnett membership.
- Rights-of-Way Powerlines Clearing Program: Ensures reliable service, controlling costs and protecting property and lives.
- Off-Peak: Enables Polk-Burnett members to take advantage of reduced rates for electric service for specific uses, such as storage heat and water heating, that can be controlled or temporarily turned-off during periods of high electric demand.
- Load Management: Reduces the amount of power you use during times energy use on the electric system is at its highest by allowing Polk-Burnett to control use at your location during those times. When we reduce the energy use during peak demand times, we forestall the need to build new, expensive electrical generation facilities and transmission equipment to meet your electrical needs. Load management also provides for more efficient use of the facilities we have, which means we can hold future rate increases to a minimum.
Stray Voltage: A service offered by Polk-Burnett for dairy farmers.
