Planting Guidelines

Trees and shrubs planted near high-voltage overhead and underground power lines can eventually cause outages, slow maintenance and repairs, endanger lives and property and even waste energy. To prevent Polk-Burnett from having to remove a tree or shrub, please see the planting guidelines below when planting. The planting guide pertains to the main overhead and underground high-voltage lines and does not apply to low-voltage service wires – either overhead or underground – that run from the transformer to your home, cabin or business. However, it's a good idea to allow clearance near overhead service wires when planting and you should leave at least six feet of clearance on each side of any underground lines.
