Be the change you want to see in the world

Now you can support renewable energy without owning your own wind turbine or solar panels.

Evergreen is an opportunity for electric cooperative members to voluntarily contribute to the increased use of renewable energy sources. Private ownership of renewable energy does not work for everyone. A member’s property may not support it or the upfront costs and maintenance may be too great. Evergreen is an easy way for Polk-Burnett members to do their part and be green.

Evergreen renewable energy comes from wind, sun, hydro and biogas sources. Your participation in Evergreen supports our efforts to increase renewable generation above and beyond any state requirements.

In addition to your normal electric bill, you elect to pay $0.50 each month per Evergreen block, effective 2023.

Complete enrollment form to purchase Evergreen blocks, payable on your electric bills going forward.

Evergreen Renewable Energy Blocks

What is Evergreen?

Evergreen is a voluntary renewable energy program available to your home, farm or business through your local electric cooperative. Evergreen is for those who want to do more to support renewable energy.

Where does Evergreen renewable energy come from?

Evergreen renewable energy comes from regional solar, wind, hydro and biogas generation resources.

Aren’t utilities required to produce a certain amount of electricity from renewable energy resources?

Yes, a percentage our power generation mix comes from renewables. Evergreen blocks are above and beyond those requirements.

How does Evergreen work?

In addition to your normal monthly electric bill, you volunteer to pay a small additional charge each month to support renewable energy generation. There is nothing to hook up. And, you will continue to receive the same reliable electric service. You can support renewable energy without having to own your own solar panels or wind turbine.

What are the benefits of participating in the Evergreen renewable energy program?

It's clean! By participating in Evergreen you are investing in the future of the environment. As our dependence on renewable energy sources increases we become less dependent on more conventional power plants that burn fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas.

It's easy! Evergreen doesn’t require any upfront costs for equipment or future maintenance. It provides an option for your home, farm or business to be green without solar panels or wind turbines physically on the property.

How much does Evergreen cost?

Buy as many Evergreen energy blocks as you like for $0.50 per month per block.

In addition to your regular electric bill, you'll pay $0.50 more for a renewable energy block of 100 kilowatt hours each month (a half a cent per kWh). One block of 100 kWh represents about 10% of the average residential monthly electric use (1,000 kWh).

Buy more blocks and do even more to support renewable energy:
Members can choose to have 100 percent of your electricity generated with renewable energy. The average home uses about 1,000 kWh per month, which equals $5 per month to be a green home.

How are Evergreen funds used?

Funds are used to purchase renewable energy from regional resources to meet Evergreen subscriptions. Funds are also used to administer the program.

How do I know that I am getting my electricity from renewable energy sources?

All generation facilities, renewable and fossil fuel, send their energy output to the power grid, so the actual electricity that serves your home, farm or business may or may not come from renewable sources. However, when you enroll in Evergreen, you increase the amount of renewable energy flowing into the grid.

The Evergreen renewable energy that you purchase will be above and beyond state requirements and will replace electricity that would have been generated by conventional fossil fuels.
