We all depend on electricity to power our lives, but accidents can happen when electricity is used improperly.

According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI), thousands of Americans are critically injured as a result of electrical fires, accidents and electrocution in their homes.

Please follow these tips and be safe around electricity every day:

1. Don’t use extension cords in high traffic areas or as a permanent power supply.

2. Heavy reliance on power strips is a sign that you have too few outlets for your needs.

3. Keep liquids and drinks away from TVs, computers and other electrical equipment.

4. Check for overhead power lines before using ladders outdoors.

5. Inspect power tools and appliances for frayed cords and broken plugs.

6. Unplug outdoor power tools and appliances when not in use.

7. Water and electricity do not mix. Avoid wet conditions when using electricity.

8. Report safety hazards, downed lines or trees on a line to the co-op, 800-421-0283
