Polk-Burnett raises scholarships to $2,000 for 77 students in Class of 2026
Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative will present its largest scholarship to the Class of 2026, with 77 sons and daughters of co-op members each receiving $2,000 to continue education after high school. A total of $154,000 will be awarded by the co-op. (Last year’s scholarship was $1,500.)
In addition, one Polk-Burnett scholarship candidate was selected to receive an extra $1,000 scholarship from Dairyland Power Cooperative, our wholesale power provider. And two students were chosen to be our local delegates for the Electric Co-op Youth Tour of Washington, D.C. in June.
“Our board of directors is very supportive of co-op scholarships that strengthen education and co-op families. We are pleased to invest in our next generation and help them pursue their goals,” said Polk-Burnett General Manager Steve Stroshane.
“Giving back to our local community and youth is part of our mission as a co-op,” added Polk-Burnett Communications Director Joan O’Fallon. “We had an outstanding group of candidates this year! We thank them for their community service and congratulate to all 2026 graduates.”
Polk-Burnett scholarship winners demonstrate a cooperative spirit through community service and make a difference in the lives of others. Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors whose parents are members of the electric cooperative. Winners were notified in February, and many will be recognized in person by co-op employees and board directors during local school award ceremonies this spring.
Since 1987, Polk-Burnett has given more than $1.4 million in scholarships to support co-op students. Scholarships do not affect electricity rates; they are funded with unclaimed Capital Credits that would be forfeited to the state if not used for education, and by the generosity of co-op members who donate their Capital Credits.
Congratulations, 2026 Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative Scholarship Winners & Youth Tour Delegates!
